The Type 10 Main Battle Tank is the latest generation of Japanese armoured vehicle developed for the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF). Designed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and introduced into service in 2012, it was created to replace older Type 74 tanks while providing improved mobility, protection and digital battlefield capabilities.

Designed specifically for Japan's unique operational requirements, the Type 10 is smaller and lighter than many modern main battle tanks, allowing it to operate effectively across Japan's mountainous terrain and extensive road network. Its compact design also enables easier transport between Japan's islands compared with heavier foreign tank designs.

The Type 10 is armed with a powerful 120mm smoothbore cannon and features an advanced automatic loading system, allowing it to maintain a high rate of fire with a reduced crew size. Its modular armour system provides enhanced protection while allowing additional armour packages to be fitted depending on mission requirements.

One of the Type 10's most significant advances is its sophisticated digital communication and battlefield management systems. These allow the tank to share information with other vehicles and command units, improving coordination and situational awareness during modern combat operations.

Powered by a high-performance diesel engine and equipped with an advanced continuously variable transmission, the Type 10 offers excellent mobility and manoeuvrability.
