The Leopard 2 A7V is one of the most advanced versions of Germany's highly successful Leopard 2 main battle tank. Developed by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (now KNDS Germany), the A7V entered service with the Bundeswehr in 2021 as the latest evolution of a tank family that has been in continuous service since 1979.

Designed to meet the demands of modern warfare, the Leopard 2 A7V incorporates significant improvements in firepower, protection and battlefield awareness. It retains the proven 120mm Rheinmetall L55 smoothbore gun, capable of firing advanced armour-piercing and multi-purpose ammunition, while benefiting from upgraded fire-control systems and thermal imaging equipment that enable accurate target engagement in all weather conditions, day or night.

The A7V features enhanced modular armour, improved mine protection and strengthened suspension to cope with its increased combat weight of over 60 tonnes. It is powered by the reliable MTU MB 873 Ka-501 1,500-horsepower diesel engine, allowing it to maintain excellent mobility despite its additional protection. Improvements to crew ergonomics, digital communications and battlefield networking further enhance its operational effectiveness.

Although developed primarily for the German Army, the Leopard 2 family is operated by numerous NATO and allied nations and has earned a reputation as one of the world's finest main battle tanks. The A7V reflects decades of combat experience and technological advancement, ensuring the Leopard 2 remains at the forefront of modern armoured warfare.
