The Leopard 2 A7V is the latest operational variant of Germany's highly successful Leopard 2 main battle tank. Developed by KNDS Germany (formerly Krauss-Maffei Wegmann) for the Bundeswehr, the A7V entered service in 2021 and represents the culmination of more than four decades of continuous development of the Leopard 2 platform.

Designed to meet the demands of modern armoured warfare, the Leopard 2 A7V combines exceptional firepower, advanced protection and outstanding mobility. It is armed with the proven 120mm Rheinmetall L55 smoothbore gun, capable of firing a range of advanced armour-piercing and multi-purpose ammunition. Modern fire-control systems, thermal imaging and digital targeting equipment enable the crew to engage targets accurately in all weather conditions, both day and night.

Protection has been significantly enhanced through the use of modular composite armour, improved mine resistance and upgraded defensive systems. The tank also features improved crew ergonomics, modern battlefield management systems and advanced communications equipment, allowing it to operate seamlessly alongside other NATO forces in networked combat operations.

Despite weighing more than 60 tonnes, the Leopard 2 A7V retains excellent mobility thanks to its 1,500-horsepower MTU MB 873 Ka-501 diesel engine, advanced suspension and robust drivetrain. These features allow it to traverse challenging terrain while maintaining the speed and agility expected of a modern main battle tank.

The Leopard 2 family has earned an outstanding international reputation and is operated by numerous countries around the world. As the most advanced version currently in German service, the Leopard 2 A7V ensures the Bundeswehr remains equipped with one of the most capable and respected main battle tanks in modern military service.
