History of the Original Vehicle
The Jagdpanzer E-100 was a proposed German super-heavy tank destroyer design based on the E-100 super-heavy tank chassis, developed during the later stages of the Second World War as part of Germany's Entwicklung (E-Series) programme. The E-Series was intended to standardise armoured vehicle production by creating a family of vehicles that shared common components, simplifying manufacturing and maintenance.
Unlike the earlier Jagdpanzer designs that were based on existing tanks, the Jagdpanzer E-100 was conceived as a heavily armed, heavily protected assault vehicle capable of engaging enemy armour from long distances. The design combined the massive E-100 hull with a fixed superstructure similar in concept to other German tank destroyers, providing a lower profile than a conventional turreted tank while allowing the use of extremely powerful anti-tank weaponry.
The E-100 itself was intended to be one of the heaviest armoured vehicles ever constructed, with a planned weight exceeding 100 tonnes. However, the project suffered from major logistical and industrial difficulties, and development was halted before the vehicle could enter production. Only a single incomplete E-100 chassis was nearing completion when the war ended, and the Jagdpanzer E-100 never progressed beyond the design stage.
The Jagdpanzer E-100 therefore remains a hypothetical “what-if” vehicle, representing what German armoured development might have produced had the war continued. While it never saw combat, its imposing size, extreme armour protection, and powerful armament have made it a popular subject among military enthusiasts, historians, and scale modellers.
