History of the Original Vehicle

The AH-64D Longbow Apache is an advanced attack helicopter developed from the highly successful AH-64A Apache, designed to provide the United States Army with a powerful platform for anti-armour warfare, reconnaissance, and battlefield support. The Longbow upgrade introduced significant improvements in targeting capability, survivability, and networked battlefield operations.

The most recognisable feature of the AH-64D is the AN/APG-78 Longbow Fire Control Radar, mounted above the main rotor. This millimetre-wave radar allows the helicopter to detect, classify, and engage multiple targets in difficult weather and battlefield conditions. Combined with the AGM-114 Hellfire missile system, the Apache gained a powerful "fire-and-forget" anti-tank capability, allowing crews to engage armoured targets while reducing exposure to enemy fire.

The AH-64D also introduced upgraded T700-GE-701C engines, improved avionics, enhanced communications systems, and a fully integrated digital cockpit. These improvements greatly increased the helicopter's effectiveness compared with the earlier AH-64A while retaining the Apache's proven airframe and weapon systems.

The first remanufactured AH-64D Longbow Apache was delivered in 1997, and the type has since become one of the world's most advanced attack helicopters. It has seen extensive operational service with the U.S. Army and allied nations, including combat operations in the Middle East, where it has demonstrated its ability to provide precision strikes, armed reconnaissance, and close support for ground forces.

The AH-64D Longbow Apache remains one of the most iconic military helicopters of the modern era, combining advanced sensors, powerful weaponry, and exceptional battlefield versatility.
